Pat Mora, a popular presenter across the country at conferences, campuses, libraries and schools, speaks and offers workshops on creativity, literacy, leadership, the writing process, parents as partners, and serving diverse populations. Mora is the author of award-winning books for all ages: nonfiction and poetry for adults and two poetry collections for young adults, My Own True Name and most recently Dizzy in Your Eyes: Poems about Love, written in the voices of teens. Mora has published thirty children’s books including bilingual books and the much-loved Tómas and the Library Lady, about Dr. Tomás Rivera, a migrant worker who became the President of UC Riverside. Mora received Honorary Doctorates in Letters from North Carolina State University and SUNY Buffalo and is an Honorary Member of the American Library Association. A former teacher, university administrator, and consultant, Mora is the founder of the family literacy initiative El día de los niños / El día de los libros, Children’s Day / Book Day (Día), now housed at the American Library Association. The year-long commitment to linking all children to books, languages and cultures, and of sharing what Mora calls “bookjoy,” culminates in national celebrations in April.
